Best Plan B Ideas For Destination Weddings

If you are planning on a destination wedding, then chances are that some part of the day (or all of it) will be outside*

*Subject to the weather (of course)

This is not something that any couple wants to think about happening on their BIG DAY - but the reality is that you do need to discuss and know your Plan B options with the venue. This conversation should start even before you sign on the dotted line and say "Yes" to the venue.

But not all Plan B's need to be horrible, cruel, dream smashing events. If you come prepared to make the day amazing and fun - no matter the weather - if you do have to move forward with Plan B, it won't seem so bad because you prepared to make it the best day ever!

Rain, Rain Go Away - If your destination wedding is in a location during a time where, on average, there is a 20% or more chance of rain - you should think about how to make the rain work for you. Even if the rain is just a sprinkle, be prepared with a really cute umbrella in your wedding colors. This can fold easily in your luggage and make for amazing photos (while keeping your mascara from running!) Or make sure to scout out cool covered places for pictures before the big day. This way you will be ready if a dark cloud comes your way.

Don't Blow Away - Wind can be another major weather factor if you are planning a destination wedding on the ocean. Any thing stronger than 10 MPH wind gust can be problematic to your decor and hair!

Plan for a windy day with minimum "light" table decor. This includes flower pedals, confetti, gems or other items that can easy blow away. If it's going to be windy, just delete these items from your decor plan - not worth your guests trying to chase them down.

Check to see which way the wind is blowing for the optimum Beyonce look. Even if you need to switch sides at the ceremony - it may be worth it to have the wind blowing towards you, not behind you. Especially if you have your hair down or long train. Make the wind work for you!

You Are My Sunshine- Not all weather problems seem like an issue at first. If you are hosting your destination wedding in a tropical setting in the summer -the top two weather issues may not be a factor, but you should plan for the heat. Check with your venue to see if they can provide frozen towels before or right after the ceremony or just face towels to help control the shine. Also making sure that the venue provides easy access to lots of cold water for drinking at all points during the day will be key to keeping everyone healthy and hydrated.

ProTip: Ask if the venue can provide fresh fruit, like cucumber and mint, in the water to make it extra special for you - encouraging your guests to keep hydrated.
