Top 7 Destination Wedding Trends 2021

Father/Bride First Look

Father's know best so let them have the first look! This trend is a twist on the Groom's first look, sure not to leave a dry eye. It's a fantastic way to honor the wedding tradition of not seeing the Groom - while still being a part of the modern "first look" trend.

Family First Look Reveal

Some destination wedding brides are taking it a step further with a family and friends "first look" reveal. Capturing these candid reactions gives all the feelings, every time!

The Family Dance

As more couples are blending families than ever before, a new wedding dance tradition is emerging. Along side the traditional first dance, father/daughter dance, and mother/son dance, the Family Dance is a beautiful way to celebrate a new-bigger family together. Most will choose an upbeat song that is easy to dance to and can let the rest of the party join in right after.

Desserts to Please

Not everyone is a cake person - and that's ok! Large tier wedding cakes are not as popular as they use to be. Wedding couples are now looking for more fun unique ways to express their personality in a very sweet way. Mini pies, to dessert shooters, or even a Smore's Bar is the talk of the town in 2021 and beyond. Desserts that are special to the wedding location is also on trend - keep it local

Newly Wed Cutting Cake

Although large, expensive tiered cakes are trending down, couples still want that iconic photo of cutting a cake together and smashing in each other faces (always best to discuss this first!). So smaller single tiered cakes on beautiful cake stands (to give it height) are all the rage right now. It's even more cost effective to be able to elevate this cutting cake to exactly what you want - think upgrades to colors, flowers, cake topper, ect.

Weddings That Give Back

Weddings that get behind a cause, special to the couple, is so hot right now. If it's a venue that partners with a charity on your behalf or couples donating the money that was budgeted for the guest favors -giving back to the local community feels so good well beyond the nuptials.

The Courtyard by Marriott in Marathon Florida Keys adopts a turtle from the Turtle Hospital in Marathon on behalf of their couples as their wedding gift - so they always have an excuse to come visit the Florida Keys.

The Relaxed Welcome Reception

Wedding couples planning a destination wedding are finding ways to spend as much time together with their guests beyond the reception. The traditional formal dinner after the ceremony rehearsal with only the wedding party and family is now trending towards a more fun-casual gathering that includes everyone the night before the big day.

Munch, drink, mix and mingle = more time together!

Venues like the Courtyard by Marriott in Marathon Florida Key are helping destination wedding couples extend the fun without the costly formal dinner bill. This venue created "Food Truck" options - offering a lively action station where guests indulge in made-to-order items, such as street tacos or flavorful satay's, for a fraction of a standard buffet price. Giving the guests more to munch on than just light apps, but not the full cost of a traditional buffet.
